High School Exception - Girls 15U

Updated 10/7/20

MYHA recognizes that on occasion, players who have remaining 15U eligibility may elect to try out for a high school team.  In order to support the opportunity for those players who believe they are capable of playing varsity hockey, MYHA has adopted the following policy and will treat this situation as it would any other wavier request to play outside our association.

1 MYHA registered players who are in high school (9-10th grade) who tryout and make the top 15U A team (if there are 2 A teams) may request a waiver to try out for any high school varsity program.

2 Upon obtaining approval from the MYHA President and Girls Director, MYHA will reserve a roster spot on the top 15U A team until the results from the varsity high school tryouts are known.  Players trying out for a high school team cannot participate with the 15U A team during the tryout period.

3 If the player makes a varsity team on a high school team they will not be eligible to return to MYHA.  MYHA at its discretion may or may not elect to replace that player’s spot on the 15U A team. Players who make a varsity high school team as outlined above will forfeit ALL of the season’s fees.

4 If the player fails to make the varsity high school team, she will be permitted to return to the 15U A team immediately.

5 A player may fail to make the varsity high school team but does make junior varsity.  The player may choose to stay and play junior varsity. Players who make a junior varsity high school team as outlined above will forfeit ALL of the season’s fees.

6 Players in their first year of 15U eligibility, and players who do not make the top 15U A team, may also elect to try out for a varsity high school team. MYHA strongly believes that players in these circumstances should remain in the youth hockey program. Therefore MYHA will not grant a waiver to these players that would encourage them to try out for varsity teams.

7 The MYHA President and Girls Director must receive waiver requests via email within 24 hours of a player being notified that they have a roster spot on the top 15U A team.  The waiver must identify the varsity program and the name of the head coach for that program.

8 Waivers must be approved by the 15U A head coach, MYHA President and Girls Director.

9 If the waiver request is denied the player can appeal to the grievance committee for review.  The grievance committee, by a majority vote, can approve the waiver.

10 If a player fails to receive approval for any reason, MYHA is not obligated to reserve a roster spot on any of the MYHA teams and is not obligated to refund any portion of their season fees.
