MYHA endorses the S.K.A.T.E. Skaters Keep Achieving through Education (S.K.A.T.E.) academic program for the 10th year in a row. Last year we had close to 400 players qualify for the Academic Achievement Award and we’re looking forward to another successful year.
As competitors, young players set goals for themselves on the ice and in the classroom. Like the cheers they hear for goals, assists and good hustle, students respond positively to recognition and reward for their performances in the classroom. In fact, 99% of youth hockey players will never play professional hockey, so the idea of placing greater emphasis on education makes sense.
S.K.A.T.E. encourages, rewards, and supports youth hockey players who commit themselves to their schoolwork while enjoying the sport of hockey. MYHA’s objectives are to foster solid work habits in young players, on and off the ice that will stay with them throughout their lives. Students who achieve a 3.0 GPA or higher, during the second quarter/academic period will be recognized at an Academic Achievement Awards Ceremony at Minnetonka High School Center for the Arts , date and time to be determined.
