Time Clock, Penalty Box and Score Box Instructions

Director of the Day - Responsible for the complete operations of all tournament activities during that shift. This includes all tournament jobs listed plus working with the teams, coaches, officials, and EMT's.  Ensure that all volunteers are present and signed in – call them if they are not.  Previous experience working a tournament (doesn't have to be hockey) is necessary. This is someone who likes to be in charge and have responsibility. Must be able to make decisions on the spot.  A detailed job description and checklist for this position are utilized at all tournaments.  Note that the Director of the Day responsibilities for the Mite events are a subset of those listed above and are much simpler and easy to manage.  There will be Director of the Day training sessions during the season, if sufficient interest.

Registrar - Checks in every team and verifies that each player/team/coach has the proper documentation before being allowed to play. The Registrar on Friday nights is the most difficult and this person preferably must have been the Registrar before. Other days it is not as important to have experience. You will assign locker rooms, post scores, fax scoresheets, and answer basic questions on every shift.  Must be organized.

Concessions – Sell goods at concessions stand including hot and cold food, hot and cold beverages, snacks, frozen goods, and others.  Additional concessions might be available for tournaments that are not normally for sale during the season.  Prep area during the day’s first shift and clean-up and re-stock during the day’s last shift.  No children are allowed in the concessions area.

Chuck-a-puck – Rent numbered hockey pucks before and during games for, say, $1 per puck.  Between the second and third periods, go out on ice and have people throw their pucks out onto the ice at a designated target, normally the top of the anchor at Pagel, for example.  Note the number of the closest puck, announce the winning number, and collect the pucks off the ice.  Give the winner his/her prize.  This volunteer should have sales experience, be outgoing, like to get people excited, and must be able to get up and work the stands selling pucks.  Finally, this person must like having fun.

Tickets – Sit at ticket table and sell tickets.  Know and enforce ticket policies.

Merchandise – Sell Minnetonka Hockey and other merchandise.  Must like apparel, have some sales experience, and like to make displays.  These opportunities can take place during Picture Day, Tournaments, and at other times.  Creativity and fun are plusses for this position.

Penalty Box – Open doors to the penalty box when the referee tells you during games.  Those working a Jr. Gold tournament should have previous hockey experience and not be leery of potential conflicts.  See also http://www.tonkahockey.org/pdf/TimeClockOperation.pdf for more detailed information.

ScoreBox – Keep the official scorebook during games.  This volunteer should have previous hockey game, coaching, or scoring experience.  There will be ScoreBox training sessions throughout the season.  See also http://www.tonkahockey.org/pdf/TimeClockOperation.pdf for more detailed information.

TimeClock – Run the timeclock during the games.  Should know rules for age group playing.  Rules and procedures are posted at the sites.  Previous experience or willing to be trained to run the timeclock is necessary.  There will be TimeClock training sessions throughout the season.  See also http://www.tonkahockey.org/pdf/TimeClockOperation.pdf for more detailed information.

Announcer – Announce scoring, penalties, etc. during games; play the National Anthem and play music during breaks.  This volunteer should have a good (doesn’t need to be great) voice, be outgoing, and want to create some excitement at the games.

Fundraising – Possible sales of other fundraising items to be determined.

Security/Clean-up – Normally at high school games, ensure that arena rules and regulations are enforced, maintain a semblance of order, and CLEAN UP arena stands after the games.

Pagel Clean-up – Occasional cleaning days will be scheduled.  Duties include cleaning Pagel concessions area, bleachers, arena, lobby, and other areas to be determined.

Picture Day – Help direct traffic, organize, and assist as needed on the association’s picture day.  Must be organized and enjoy working in a fun and fast-paced environment.
